I am so excited to be posting these delicious Gougères for the very first French Fridays with Dorie! I have wanted to make Gougères for years, but have never gotten to it until today for FFWD. Dorie is an amazing teacher through her writing, and gives very clear directions and tips to make sure your kitchen creations turn out, as I have learned participating in Tuesdays with Dorie. These Gougères were a perfect intro to her new book, Around My French Table, and tasted absolutely delicious.
Dorie gives a few cheese suggestions and I went with Gruyère since that is a favorite cheese of mine and I'm always happy to have an excuse to buy a block. This is my usual Gryuère, it's imported from Switzerland and available at Sam's Club, I love the flavor it adds.

I baked up a half recipe, which was perfect for our little family. I ended up with 16 puffs. Next time I think I will go ahead with a full batch, especially if we have company.
My kiddos really liked these, and picky husband said they were "definitely different, but pretty good" which was not quite as high of praise as I was expecting, sigh. I thought they were fantastic, the Gruyère really stood out, light and airy, yet not too delicate to enjoy. My kids loved how crispy they were on the outside and softer in the middle.
This was such a fun baking project, and the end results were amazing. Thank you so much to Laurie for starting this group and keeping us together for another amazing cook through of Dorie's amazing recipes :)

Your gougeres look perfect!
Ok, your gougeres are lovely, but I absolutely love that brick wall in your kitchen!
These were amazing weren't they. And so easy to make. Yours are beautiful.
Yum they look so good!
I'm so glad to know that you're cooking along with FFwD too! Your gougeres look perfect! It's been years since I've been to Sam's and I never knew they had such a collection of cheeses. I'll have to head over there one day soon!
It looks like the turned out perfectly! I wish I thought enough to freeze some for later!
Spectacular! They look so delicious. Thanks for the process photos...I hope to get to these today...a little behind here but hoping to rectify that today!
Beautiful gougeres, so glad the kids loved them too!
I really should not be reading gougere posts on an empty stomach! Yours look beautiful!
I am soo making those ASAP! There is a restaurant in NYC called BLT, they serve the most amazing hot out of the oven popovers (instead of traditional breadbasket) that you can not get enough of. So well received they give you a recipe card with the check. They are topped with gruyere. They are heavenly. I'll have to post that recipe....after I try this one!
